If you have the chance to catch a super Ryanair offer and fly to the London in November (there is always a good reason to go there), you are warmly invited to go to the see the Polar Bear. Well, I’m not suggesting to go to the zoo but… to the London Jazz Festival (12th -21 st Nov www.londonjazzfestival.com).
I have to confess that the first time I bumped into them (musically speaking), I was totally impressed by the drummer what-seems-to-be ”wig”. Indeed, they are one of the most interesting band in the new-jazz scenario, led by the Scottish superhaired Sebastian Rochford (the drummer, respect!).
This combo was born in London in 2004 and takes its name from the features of the polar animal: smooth as the sound of the tenor saxophones, with attitude as the drumbeats, intriguing as the double bass and electronics. The fascinating thing is how they can lovely combine elements taken from jazz, funk, electronics (sometimes, home-made check out the video of “tomlovesalicelovestom”), put them together, mix them up and realize of genre of music, free of mental constraints.
In November in the frosty London, I hope to be warmed by the Polar Bear.
– London Jazz Festival: Polar Bear will play on 13th -14 Nov at the Westminster Reference Library.
