Being There is a four-piece London-based brand new band. They have released their debut LP called Breaking Away which I think mirrors perferctly their pure lo-fi soul.
We had a nice little chat with the guys…
First of all, how are you guys and would you like to introduce you to Polkadot?
We’re good thanks! We are a four piece indie-rock/pop band from London.
Your first LP is coming up soon. are you happy with it? And how did the recording go?
Yes very happy. We recorded it with Richard Formby in Leeds and I think he did a great job of pulling it all together and making it sound cohesive in a short space of time.
What were your influences?
For the album I was influenced by bands like Guided By Voices, Yo La Tengo, The Hold Steady, The Replacements and The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. And a bunch of others.
The video for your single 17′ is romantic and nostalgic-like.
Our bassist James found all of this free footage online and pieced it together for the video. I think it actually fits surprisingly well. People think we even filmed it!
How do you say goodnight (always refering to the last scene of the video)?
A swift handshake.
You supported Noah and The Whale, how was it?
Fun! It’s great to play to so many people every night and their fans were very supportive. The band were great too.
Have you ever been to Italy? and if not which city would you like to visit?
Yes I’ve been a few times. To Rome and to Sardinia and to Naples. I love Italy!
What do you do in your spare time?
I watch movies, read books, go to work, watch football, play in a band.
What’s on you ipod now?
Julian Lynch, Grimes, Erykah Badu, Julianna Barwick, Deerhunter
