Bugs crawling in the snow? It wasn’t the birds eye view on carvers paradises in the italian, french or austrian alps, which inspired th swedish company POC for their new sports collection. Bug ist the name of the new biomimetic POC ski-helmets-line, worn by ski-pros such as Bode Miller, Tucker Perkins, Jan Olsson or Julia Mancuso. The helmets are the stylish response to demands for ultimate headprotection used by soft- and hardcore ski-racers (POC is supplying the Swedish and the Dutch national team as well). The biomimetic „bug“-line adaptes biological structures and functions. “A beetles shell is hard but flexible, external skeleton provides armored protection for vital organs while allowing free movement. This amazing insect is the perfect metaphor for the combination of protection and freedom that our products provide. It is natural, therefore, that we have chosen the beetle as our symbol and the inspiration for our work“, says POC’s marketing department.
The companies principles are working in a cross scientific way involving competences from different fields, such as engineers, material specialists, industrial and graphic designers, neurologists and back specialists. tested by top sport athletes to be optimated. The end result is a line of lightweight, high performance gear, that offers the ultimate protection against injury. And what we like best: beeing perfectly protected, while looking cool: for personally customized combinations, you might chose between a range of at least 12 helmet colours and a vast variety of funky coloured, perfectly matching goggles…check it out and put it on your wishing list…
