Habitat sells shoes. We think pretty cool shoes, actually. You won’t see a gajillion brands and styles on this site. That’s not the point of why this store exist. This is what John, the guy behind Habitat, has told us to explain more about the store.
Since when habitat is online and how all the things started?
Habitat began in 2005 with a store location in Kansas City, MO and the global online presence. Habitat was created because the owners felt there was a great need for a small, independent fashion forward and European shoe store in the local area, as well as a savvy web destination. Basically, our mission is to hand pick the shoes we like from some of our favorite designers. We see thousands of shoes each year. We focus on color, materials, production and of course, design. We are a very design driven store, not just in our footwear and other merchandise, but the furniture we choose, the print material that supports our store, and the overall shopping experience either in our store or online.
Which customer do you would to attract? which are your favourite brands?
It seems like customers either understand our product, or they don’t. We attract both a young and older customer, one who appreciates design, function and color and who definitely want to stand apart from everyone else. Our core customers show off their own personal style with confidence. Some of our favorite brands: Loeffler Randall – UK, Chie Mihara – Spain, Coclico – Spain, Farylrobin – USA, J Shoes – UK, PF Flyers – USA, F-Troupe – UK, Puma Black Label – Italy, Camper – Spain, Tretorn – Sweden
Tell us some fresh news about habitat… new releases or promotions?
We just opened our new location in Kansas City. The new space is beautiful and we are excited about our expanded product offerings. We just received some special holiday Creative Recreation sneakers for men that are sweet, that will be online very soon. New brands that we are announcing for Spring 2009: Schmoove, Swear and Sneaky Steve for men. We will be one of a few retailers worldwide that will be offering a limited edition men’s shoe collaboration with UK based J Shoes and Los Angeles based culture magazine Metro.Pop. The shoe is sick, but I don’t want to give away any details yet. We may be the only people selling it online when it comes available.
