On Jun 3rd, artist Paul Ramírez Jonas and Creative Time, a public arts organization, will unveil the Key to the City, a free public art project in collaboration with the City of New York. Generally a symbolic award to honor heroes and dignitaries, the Key to the City will be a functional key that will open doors to various places throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Unlike the traditional key which is awarded to a chosen few, this key is for ordinary citizens who will have the opportunity to award it to other individuals for a particular deed or trait, howsoever small. The keys will open doors to community gardens, churches, museums and private businesses in the city. A kiosk will be set up in the Times Square to give and receive one of the many keys.
The project runs from June 3rd to June 27th. | Via
